Help

Short guides. They work offline too.

Setting up
  1. Tell Spool your monthly take-home pay and the day it arrives. If it is the last working day, pick that.
  2. Add the bills that always come: rent, EMIs, phone, subscriptions. You can skip and add them later in Settings, Bills.
  3. If your income varies, switch on “My income varies” and add the payments you expect, with their dates.
  4. Your first forecast shows straight away: money left after bills, and a safe amount for each day.
Logging a spend
  1. Type the amount, tap a category, tap Add. Three taps. Undo shows for a few seconds if you slip.
  2. Change the date chip to log yesterday. Tap Note to add a payee, or mark a spend to be reimbursed.
  3. Your most-used categories move to the front after a few entries.
  4. Missed a few days? Spool offers one rough total for the gap, so your forecast stays right.
Your forecast
  1. Safe to spend is the money left after upcoming bills and your savings target, shared across the days to payday.
  2. Tap the number to see how it was worked out: income, each bill, your usual daily spend and the days left.
  3. Early on it is an estimate. The range narrows and the confidence rises as you log more days.
  4. A refund comes off the spend it refunds. Money owed to you never counts as your spending.
Reminders
  1. Sign in, then choose a time in Settings, Reminders. One reminder a day at most, skipped if you already logged.
  2. Allow browser notifications for a nudge on this device, or choose email instead.
  3. On iPhone, add Spool to your Home Screen first (Share, then Add to Home Screen) and open it from there.
  4. Quiet hours hold reminders until they end. Hide amounts keeps figures off your lock screen.
Signing in and devices
  1. Spool works without an account. Sign in to keep a copy online and use it on more than one device.
  2. Add more ways to sign in under Settings, Account, so you never get locked out.
  3. On a shared device, untick “Keep me signed in”, and choose to remove data when you sign out.
Your data
  1. Export your entries as a CSV file from Settings, Export your data. Pick the dates you want.
  2. Your amounts and notes never go into analytics. Analytics stay off until you turn them on.
  3. Delete your account from Settings, Privacy. We remove your data from our servers and confirm by email.
