The spool gang

24 little critters who live in the margins of your money. Each one starts in pencil, gets inked by hand, then stamped in colour, just like the category icons.

Every month is a spool of thread. Each spend you log ties a small knot on it, and by payday the whole month is there to read.

The gang lives on that thread. Bobbin holds it together, Mog keeps an eye on your numbers, and the rest turn up for the good bits: payday, a streak, a little more saved.

On hard days they step aside. Overspend, shortfall and errors get plain words and one clear next step, never a cartoon.

How they're made

  1. 1 · Pencil Loose circles and a centre line. Find the shape before the face.
  2. 2 · Ink One wobbly brush line on top. Eyes go in white with a dark pupil.
  3. 3 · Stamp Colour pressed on slightly off the line, speckles and all.

House rules

  • Calm or happy moments only. A logged spend, payday, a streak, a goal ticked off.
  • Never on overspend, shortfall, debt or error screens. Money stress gets plain words.
  • One critter per screen, and they leave in under 1.2 seconds.
  • They peek, they don't perform. No critter ever covers a number or a button.
  • Every critter holds a thread somewhere. That's how you know they're ours.
